Rather than simply pass an electronic image through to a single, predetermined destination, scanned documents can be enhanced for improved readability, text can be converted into editable electronic information, barcodes can be read, and workflow process can be triggered.
Once processing is complete, the documents and their metadata (descriptive keywords) are distributed to any number of locations—e-mail (including fax), stored in a document management system (e.g. Microsoft SharePoint), sent to FTP sites, secure network folders, or even multiple destinations simultaneously.
